DOVER – Bayhealth’s Inpatient Nurse Residency Program achieved the highest level of accreditation with distinction by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC’s) Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP).
The Inpatient Nurse Residency Program offers an evidence-based curriculum that allows nurses a collaborative learning environment to successfully transition into clinical practice. Residents are given the opportunity to work alongside experienced staff and learn in a real-life setting to be better prepared and more confident in their nursing career.
“We are committed to the success of new nurses’ transition into their nursing practice at Bayhealth,” Senior Director, Clinical Practice and Professional Development Angel Dewey, MSN, RN, APRN, ACNS-BC, CCRN, NPD-BC, said. “Our Nurse Residency Program supports this transition through an evidence-based year-long process which is supported by numerous interprofessional experts.”
The program offers a one-on-one unit orientation with an assigned registered nurse preceptor, monthly classes and a mentorship program. Class topics include resiliency, time management, crucial conversations, vascular access, and more. Nurse residents get hands-on training in the PCOM Simulation Center at Bayhealth. Participants meet frequently with their unit-based nursing professional development practitioner and residency coordinators to ensure their individual goals are met. Following graduation, the residents remain in a mentorship program.
“New nurse graduates need support in order to thrive,” Inpatient Nurse Residency Coordinator Michelle Thompson, MSN, RN, PCCN-K, NPD-BC, said. “We offer a welcoming environment where nurse graduates can seamlessly transition into practice. To be reaccredited with distinction solidifies the time and energy we invest in providing a stellar program for new nurse graduates. Bayhealth is a place where all nurses – no matter their tenure – should feel welcomed and supported.”
As an accredited program with distinction, Bayhealth’s Inpatient Nurse Residency Program delivers quality residency program content, knowledgeable and experienced faculty, evidence-based practice, satisfaction of residents, and improved patient care and outcomes.
