MIDDLETOWN – The Down Syndrome Association of Delaware (DSA of DE) is excited to be teaming up with Fusion Racing to include a 5K in this year’s 21st Annual Down Syndrome Walk & 5K. This event, which typically draws over 1,000 participants from all three counties in Delaware, serves to raise awareness and funds for programs that benefit people with Down syndrome and their families.
Participants can choose to register individually or as a team for either the quarter-mile Awareness Walk or the timed 5K Run/Walk by visiting the event website at ds-stride.org/delawaredswalk. Each participant and/or team will then be able to set up a personal fundraising page to help the DSA of DE reach this year’s goal of $100,000. All registrants are welcome to participate in our Family Fun Day following the walk/run, which will feature raffles, food trucks, music, photo booth, face paint, and more. For those unable to join the day of the walk, donations to a participant, team, or the DSA of DE may be made by visiting the website.
“The support that we receive each year for the Delaware Down Syndrome Walk from members of the community is overwhelming,” Lauren Camp Gates, Executive Director of DSA of DE said. “The event is a celebration of programs and services we are able to provide individuals with Down syndrome and their families.”
Event highlights include a Team Captain breakfast, raffle prizes, free swag, inflatables, and Zumba. Food trucks will be available providing opportunities for participants and their guests to purchase lunch, snacks, and drinks. Exhibitors at the Walk will include Delaware ABLE Plan (this is the only confirmed exhibitor so far), among others.
The day will begin with registration and check-in for the 5K run at 9 AM. The run has a start time of 10 AM. The event will officially kick off with an Opening Ceremony following the completion of the 5K. Last year’s top team will be leading all walk participants at the starting line at noon. Spirit Award winners and raffle winners will be announced following the walk.
