With companies such as Sears and Kmart closing stores nationwide, local business like Urban Furniture Outlet are expanding, with showrooms in New Castle and Dover. With a model that uses warehouses as showrooms and vice versa, the family-owned startup has blossomed.
“When we started, it was simple: price as low as you can, stock what you show, and treat customers as you’d want to be treated,” owner Taylor Urban said. “Service is being as good on the front end as on the back end, even when things go wrong. We prioritize knocking out those issues as quickly and effectively as we can to get the customer’s concerns resolved. We recently added a web chat feature to our website so we could answer customer questions quickly and in “˜real time’ as they shop our website.”
Urban Furniture outlet splits its charitable donations between two counties, with donations to organizations
like Community Systems and Piedmont Little League in New Castle County and Connections Community Support Program and the Food Bank of Delaware in both New Castle and Kent counties. For the latter, their Dover team recently conducted their own food drive, while the New Castle team raised money to support the Back-to-School Backpack Program.
