Kreston’s Wine & Spirits was founded in 1933. That was the year that the 21st Amendment was ratified, repealing Prohibition for good in America. Kreston opened on Concord Avenue 85 years ago. President Bob Kreston credits customer service, knowledgeable salespeople and the willingness to innovate and welcome new technology as key to the success of his grandfather, father, and now himself.
“My grandfather was always willing to give the next new product a try, and in 1980, my father, thanks to a friend who was a computer programmer, was the first liquor store on East Coast to fully computerize inventory,” Kreston said. “More recently, we were among the first in the state to add growlers to our offerings, and with the addition of a carbon dioxide infusion, our growlers last longer than the average you might get elsewhere.”
Outside the two locations, Kreston tries not to say no to any local charities or fundraisers, including an annual beef and beer for service men and women, sponsoring the Middletown Little League for 14 years, and helping with the Mary Campbell Center fundraiser in November.
