HR Awards: Paula Swain

Paula Swain
Executive VP of Human Resources

Company: Incyte Corp. (Wilmington)

What initiatives or processes have you introduced that have helped your organization be successful?

The company has grown from 23 employees when she joined to 1,400 people across the United States, Europe and Japan. Paula and the Incyte HR team recently deployed a survey to evaluate employees’ areas of interest and analyzed insurance claims to determine actual health-related needs. As a result, Incyte has instituted numerous cutting-edge benefits packages and wellness programs at Incyte, including fitness classes on-site, melanoma screenings and nutrition counseling, as well as developing a concierge service and creating a wellness page on the company intranet for quick access to healthy living resources, tips and recipes. Through the efforts of Paula and her team, Incyte’s employees’ medical claim costs have consistently been lower than national averages. She also championed a shared cafeteria among development and discovery employees, allowing for the exchanging of ideas and building of relationships across business functions.
