Hilyard’s Business Solutions provides office solutions to other businesses. It offers multi-function copiers, wide format printers, software products and other other IT services in partnership with leading manufacturers Xerox, Sharp, Canon, and HP.
Charles Hilyard, a World War II veteran who saw action in the Battle of Guam and Iwo Jima, opened Hilyard’s Business Solutions in Wilmington by purchasing The Typewriter Exchange, founded in 1928. He built his business on integrity and hard work, as well as customer service.
“Treat customers fairly with honest practices,” he once said, “and you will have customers for life.” The company maintains that it’s stayed true to that maxim, which has created successful partnerships for 60 years. We look forward to continuing this tradition for many years to come.
In 1992, Charles Hilyard’s youngest son Robert became the company president and leads the family business to this day. One of his biggest contributions has been a focus on cutting-edge technology. He works side by side with his wife, Susan Hilyard, who has served as president for the past 11 years.
The next generation has already entered the ranks of the company, but no one starts at the top: Charles Hilyard, Rob and Susan’s youngest son (named after his grandfather) started his career with the company as a delivery person and apprenticed with an electrician. Oldest son Michael Hilyard was a lab technician with a Fortune 500 company in and a biology teacher with the Colonial School District before joining the family company.
