SSD’s core business is Managed IT Security Services. We assume the role of an outsourced IT department for a variety of businesses from Help Desk support through strategic planning. SSD started as a developer of software. This is still an integral piece of our business with the continued development and growth of our proprietary product Axiom that we sell to higher education colleges and universities across the country.
What have been the biggest factors that contributed to your company’s growth over the past three years?
The addition of security to this offering helps to differentiate us from other companies, and continuing to develop Axiom. The newest version is Axiom Elite which can and does compete with other enterprise data movement tools used in higher education between multiple systems.
What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced over the past three years, and how did you overcome them?
Finding qualified technology staff. Those that we want to attract usually have jobs in the field. I’m not sure we have completely solved this issue. However, our best source of finding people is referrals from our own employees.
What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned over the past three years?
The importance of systems and processes can’t be overlooked. As you grow, you need to become more diligent at evaluating and changing old practices that can hinder growth.
