Ferris Home Improvements is not only one of Delaware’s largest remodeling companies in the state, but also one of the largest on the East Coast specializing in roofing, windows, doors, siding, decks, kitchens and bathrooms. Each year, we serve tens of thousands of residential and commercial customers in in Delaware, southeast Pennsylvania, eastern Maryland and southern New Jersey.

Looking back, what’s the biggest mistake you made and what would you do differently if you could?
Looking back over the past three years, the biggest mistake we made was not increasing our production earlier to accommodate growth. For example, in 2017 we made significant changes to increase our roofing production from seven to 14 roofs a week because we were getting feedback from our customers that they did not want to wait several weeks to get their roof done. When we increased our installation staffing to cut the wait time in half, we saw a dramatic improvement in customer experience and sentiment by job completion.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned over the past three years?
Data is knowledge and that knowledge is priceless! Reds revamped the company’s sales and production software, hired a CFO, and found ways to track and improve performance on just about every facet of the business. You cannot have enough data on your company. The sooner you realize that and find great ways to collect and understand that data, the sooner you will find opportunities for rapid growth within your business.
