Evergreen Waste Services is a small, local company that serves as the residential hauler of garbage, recycling and yard waste. In Delaware, we are the only company that offers pickups in Recycle, Garbage, and Yard Waste on the same day to all customers.

What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced over the past three years, and how did you overcome them?
In 2016, we moved the business from Hockessin to New Castle. We had outgrown our Hockessin location and needed more space. The main factors that helped us overcome this was having very little debt and working with a great bank and a great CPA. 

Looking back, what’s the biggest mistake you made and what would you do differently if you could?
Early on, pushing door to door sales one year too many. Another mistake was being a slow to offer benefits such as life Insurance and 401(k).

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned over the past three years?
When you have a good employee do everything you can to keep them. Ultimately a business is the people in it. Keeping and retaining employees that are loyal, care about what they do and take pride in their work add value to the business.

How do you keep your team inspired and focused on the future?
Keeping everything moving in a positive direction is a daily challenge. As the owner of a business, this is one of my primary responsibilities. I am at work five days a week and on Saturdays.
