What have been the biggest factors that contributed to your company’s growth over the past three years?
The rapid growth of our multifamily and mixed-use residential design market, which corresponds with trends in the broader market, is a significant factor. Bernardon has also rapidly gained market share in Philadelphia’s strong health-care industry, influenced by the increased development of outpatient and ambulatory care facilities, as well as the “retailization” of health care.
What have been the biggest obstacles your company has faced over the past three years, and how did you overcome them?
Staffing needs. We have found an increasingly urgent need to quickly recruit new staff members from all ends of the professional spectrum. The organization of that effort has required internal input from multiple stakeholders as well as increased staff and time resources relative to advertising open positions, vetting, and interviewing potential candidates, and training new staff.
What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learned over the past three years?
We have seven owners and each has a different set of skills. The challenge of the business is to embrace that diversity of talents and experience to create collaborations that uniquely respond to our client’s challenges in a beautiful and inspirational manner.
