Schoenberg Memorial Chapel is pretty tech-savvy for a funeral home. From Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities in their visitation rooms to using social media to post obituaries, Schoenberg has allowed technology into the funeral home.
“We use email and scanning for documents and pictures of the deceased for family members that live far away but still want to be involved in the service. Some clients have even used Facetime to record services for those far away,” Funeral Director Josh Schoenberg said. “From an administrative standpoint, we’re at a point where families don’t have to physically come in, which is especially convenient if they are coordinating services remotely.”
Aside from helping its clients, as well as their family and friends, cope with the loss of a loved one, Schoenberg Memorial Chapel supports the Jewish Community Federation and Jewish Family Services, the Jewish Community Center and local synagogues. A big part of its educational effort includes teaching younger people about the Jewish funeral ritual, in order to make the experience less traumatic when they face it on their own for the first time.
