The lawyers in the firm of Kimmel, Carter, Roman, Peltz & O’Neill, winners of the 2017 FOBA award for mid-sized company, may not have the same last names, but Morton Kimmel considers them all part of one family.


Last night in the redesigned Wilmington/Christiana Hotel in Newark, Delaware Business Times gathered the 14 finalists of the 2017 Family-Owned Business Awards for an evening of music, food and networking. Today Media Publisher Rob Martinelli kicked off the ceremony.

DBT offers awards in eight categories to reflect the wide range of family-owned businesses in the state. The awards recognize companies of different sizes, industries, and generations. Here are the winners:

Main awards 

Small-Sized Business award – Angerstein’s Building Supply & Design Center
Medium-Sized Business Award – Kimmel, Carter, Roman, Peltz & O’Neill
Large-Sized Business Award – Johnny Janosik, Inc.

Specialty awards

Community Service Award – Auto Team Delaware
Customer Service Award – Campanella’s Auto and Tire Center
Innovation and Technology Award – Al’s Sporting Goods
Emerging Family Business Award – Harvest Ridge Winery
Legacy Award – Marini Produce
