Workplace: Tevebaugh Architecture

Age: 37

Entrepreneur and architect Shawn Crowley is not only a leader in his business, but also a community leader. Crowley is the principal and owner of Tevebaugh Architecture, a full-service firm with a team of architects, planners, designers and managers with offices in Wilmington and Philadelphia. After graduating from the University of Maryland with an architecture degree, he worked as a waiter at Catherine Rooney’s in Trolley Square. It was a chance encounter with Jim Tevebaugh, who founded the firm in 1987, that led to a two-week internship and later a paid position for Crowley, launching his career from there. Four years later, Crowley became a shareholder and associate principal. Today, he owns the firm.

Under his leadership, Tevebaugh Architecture has more than doubled its client base and provided the technical knowledge for impactful, local projects like Seasons Hospice’s Wilmington Hospital expansion. Success on that site has led to the firm working on projects beyond the First State from Arizona and Texas to Florida and Connecticut.

He also chairs the Delaware ACE Mentor Program, which has provided local graduates with over $120,000 in scholarships over the past 13 years. He also serves on the New Castle County Vo-Tech Advisory Board and is a member of the DTCC Architechulat Engineering Technology Advisory Committee.

Through his work at ACE, he’s facilitated real-world project experiences for local students and connected them with industry professionals and technical careers. The 26-week-long volunteer mentoring program provides Hodgson and DelCastle Vo-Tech students with insight on careers in design and construction. In his off-hours, Crowley is a car enthusiast, and can be found on YouTube sharing instructional videos on automotive maintenance, repairs and modifications, garnering over 1 million views and 2,100 subscribers.
