As an employee of the federal government, founder of an impactful nonprofit and leader of a local staffing agency, Wilmington’s Alexander Hackett knows first-hand the importance of entrepreneurship and economic development.

The Delaware State University graduate has worked as a confidential assistant for the U.S. Economic Development Administration since 2021. In this role, Hackett supports high-level executives by maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information that includes managing calendars, scheduling appointments, coordinating travel and time management, as well as correspondence as needed.

Hackett also founded Dream Come True, a community-based charity that gives back to those in need through events such as an annual Back2School Drive, TrunkorTreat, Turkey Drive and Christmas Toy Drive. An Apparel Academy program he also is involved in focuses on teaching entrepreneurship to kids. 

As the founder of a staffing company, Hackett has helped more than 100 people find employment. Hackett’s work for the EDA has also benefited local businesses and people, through his involvement with the American Rescue Plan Act’s economic development projects, sharing his expertise to design and implement grant programs that empower local businesses and attract investments through the Build Back Better Challenge, and also worked with stakeholders and community organizations through the Good Job Challenge to identify barriers to employment.

Hackett also serves as the assistant treasurer of the Delaware State University Alumni Association.
