Title: Program Coordinator, Enrichment
Workplace: Horn Entrepreneurship
Age: 27
When she was a Girl Scout, Emerson Marine pledged to “Make the world a better place.”
Now, she designs programs to help other students do just that. Marine’s job is to enhance the college experience for University of Delaware students by designing, planning and executing a variety of co-curricular programming at the Horn Entrepreneurship program.
Marine elevated the Delaware Innovations Fellows program from an extracurricular activity to an official transcript-bearing academic enrichment program. In 2020, her new version of the program was recognized by the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC) for excellence in entrepreneurship across disciplines.
As an educator and program coordinator, Marine helps her students develop their leadership abilities, entrepreneurial mindsets and innovative skill sets, to see problems as possibilities and be empathetic to the needs of their communities. When Horn Entrepreneurship switched to virtual learning, Marine taught her students to approach the COVID-19 pandemic’s challenges with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Marine recently earned her certificate in Women’s Leadership from the Lerner Business College at UD. Outside of UD, she volunteers for a variety of organizations, including Delaware Center for Horticulture, Delaware Art Museum and Hagley Museum. In a full-circle moment, Marine has also served on the Gold Award Committee for the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay.
When she’s not supporting the next generation of world changers and social entrepreneurs, Marine works on as many rainbow-hued DIY home projects as possible to reflect her colorful personality.
