Title: Manager

Workplace: Whisman Giordano & Associates LLC

Age: 39

After 17 years in the world of accounting — all of which was spent at Delaware businesses — Edward Devenny has learned how important work-life balance is for his success.

He may not always hit that “perfect balance,” but makes sure that his family knows that they are loved and appreciated. His commitment to relationships is also key in his professional life as a manager at Whisman Giordano & Associates LLC, where he provides accounting, auditing, tax and consulting services to local businesses and individuals.

Devenny helps clients navigate ever-changing tax rules, while trying to minimize their tax burden, which has been all the more important during the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial burdens it created for many. With clients worrying about how they would stay in business or how they would pay for safety equipment to stay open, Devenny was there with an open ear to guide them through both personal and financial challenges.

Now two years into his role, he is recognized as the key “go-to” person for the most complicated and time-sensitive issues, and supports young professionals by striving to offer the same impactful mentorship that he once received to new accountants early in their careers.

The father of 7-year-old twins is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants, Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Delaware Contractors Association’s Scholarship Committee and Young Executive Committee, where he serves as chair of the Time Charity Committee.

He and his wife of 11 years, Shannon, recently adopted a black Labrador retriever, and when Devenny is not spending time with them at sporting activities, he might be spotted participating in charity walks/runs or helping out with highway clean-ups or at local nonprofits like the Food Bank of Delaware.
