Michelle Skoranski has dedicated her career to protecting Delaware’s children. As a deputy attorney general in the Delaware Department of Justice’s Child Protection Unit, Skoranski advocates for abused and neglected children to bring them into state care. She also prosecutes individuals to have them placed on the Child Protection Registry for abusing and neglecting children.
Born and raised in Wilmington, Skoranski earned her bachelor’s degree in political science and French at the University of Delaware and earned her juris doctorate from Delaware Law School. While clerking for Family Court Judges Robert B. Coonin and Arlene Minus Coppadge, she researched and contributed to the drafting of judicial opinions.
From 2016 to 2019, Skoranski represented families in custody, divorce, and protection from abuse proceedings in Family Court as an attorney with Gonser & Gonser.
In 2019, she started working in the Child Protection Unit of the Delaware Department of Justice, where she represents the entire Family Division of the department’s legislative committee and is one of three attorneys statewide on the Parental Standards Committee, which sets standards for attorneys representing indigent parents.
As a legislative attorney for the Delaware House of Representatives’ Majority Caucus, Skoranski drafts legislation on topics such as ensuring fairness in Delaware Family Courts.
Skoranski has served on the board of A Better Chance for Our Children, a nonprofit agency for Delawareans adopting children from foster care.
Skoranski is also active in get-out-the-vote efforts through phone banking, social media messaging, and mass mailing. In 2018 she worked on drafting the Delaware Voter Guide, published by the Delaware News Journal. She has also written two op-eds for the News Journal related to voting.
In her free time, Skoranski enjoys hanging out with her husband and their two dogs, running around Wilmington, visiting Rehoboth and Dewey Beach, and listening to live local music.
