General, Robotic, and Hernia Surgeon; Director, Robotic Surgery; Medical Director, The Hernia Center at ChristianaCare

Why should you be chosen for DBT 40?
I guess I have been pretty successful thus far in life. I have a beautiful wife and two awesome little boys who amaze me every day. I have a very rigorous, but extremely fulfilling job in which I am able to help people deal with very difficult medical problems, as well as lead teams dedicated to improving the care of surgical patients.  I am a general surgeon at Christiana Care Health System. I work primarily at the Wilmington hospital campus.

Professional accomplishments:  I graduated St. George’s University School of Medicine in 2009 in the top five in my class. I did my general surgery training at ChristianaCare and was named the Administrative chief resident in my last year. I had a successful private practice for the first four years after I finished training and was then recruited back to Christiana. At Christiana, I was named Director of Robotic Surgery, and Medical Director of The Hernia Center at Christiana Care. I have been practicing general, robotic, and hernia surgery for the past five years. I have authored multiple textbook chapters and scientific papers, and have been invited to speak, and teach, at many national and international professional meetings. Despite all that, I would say my biggest accomplishment is being the father of two incredible little boys, my twin sons Ethan and Mason.

Leadership examples: I am the Director of Robotic Surgery and the Medical Director of The Hernia Center at ChristianaCare. These are leadership roles that require significant time commitments as well as dedication to a very specialized field of surgery.

Vision: We are currently working on being recognized as a “Center of Excellence” in hernia surgery. This is a rigorous process and will recognize the excellent work and outcomes of our hernia center. I plan on remaining clinically very busy and active, providing the best care to my patients, as well as staying current with technology and the latest trends. The field of robotic surgery is relatively new, and we will continue to expand the technology with the goal of excellent outcomes and optimal patient care.

Community service: My family and I attend St. Mary of the Assumption church, and we participate in local activities with the parish. We donate regularly to Goodwill, and other charities such as the American Heart Association and Susan G. Komen.
