DBT40 Honoree: Justin Rodriguez

Introduction.  Justin Rodriguez is a high-energy sales management professional for CSC, an industry leader in providing business, legal, tax, and digital brand services to companies around the world. He is passionate about helping people unleash their potential, and he believes we should see people not as they are, but as they can be.  He lives by the motto “strong faith, strong family, and strong body.”

Why should you be chosen for DBT 40?  As a comeback kid who struggled with identity issues and decision making through early adulthood, winning this award is less about personal accomplishment and more about casting vision for young leaders of the future.  At just 29 years old I haven’t even scratched the surface of the footprint that I plan to leave during this lifetime.  I am devoted to helping people take their career to heights they’ve never imagined, just as it has been done for me.  Also, I am committed to joining in the fight to put a dent in the darkness of our community, by building teams to serve domestically and internationally. 

Professional accomplishments:  In a short two years, I advanced from a new sales associate to a sales management role; developing and innovating the organization, training, and processes of new CSC sales team members.  An example of a new process I have contributed towards is the implementation of a Sales Career Continuum for all new sales team members.  The sales continuum gives all team members full transparency to the future opportunities they have within CSC’s many sales departments; motivating and cultivating a progressive and inspiring career within the company. Within one year of implementing processes such as this, CSC Small Business Account Management is not only pacing to break our goal of $1 million in recurring revenue. I have also advanced 10 team members to higher level positions including mid-level sales, sales operations, and workflow coordination.

Career vision: My vision is for sales to be the engine of our entire organization.  I believe that by setting highly measurable goals and allowing the data to tell the story, we can consistently develop sales professionals that will continue to move our organizations trajectory up and to the right.  With the utilization of our reporting technology, I have the ability to make quick calculated decisions that help us pinpoint new areas of opportunity.  I constantly ask myself, “Have I provided the necessary tools and resources needed for my team to meet and exceed the expectations?”  My goal is to advance sales professionals to the next level of the career continuum within 12-18 months by identifying and strategically focusing on their strengths, while encouraging a fail forward mentality.

Community service: If I am not at work or spending time with my family, you will probably find me volunteering.   At my church, The Journey, I volunteer as the director for our Impressions Team, the team devoted to enhancing guest experience every weekend.  I also serve on our Code Red Team, dedicated to community outreach throughout the year. I have most recently been working on our annual Love Week project, where we mobilize over 1,000 volunteers to roll up their sleeves and serve in our community. Our goal for 2019 is 1,500 volunteers and 2,500 hours in one week.  Through Code Red, I have had the opportunity to serve with organizations like Urban Promise (Wilmington), A Door of Hope Pregnancy Centers and Good Neighbors. Growing up in Wilmington, I know there is no shortage of need in our community.  In addition to serving in the local community, I have traveled internationally with The Journey and Convoy of Hope Field Teams.  Our next scheduled mission is to the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania in November 2019.

Family and education: My wife Helana and I were married April 3, 2019. I earned my bachelor’s degree in legal studies in 2015 from Wilmington University.
