Rooted by two generations of leadership in agricultural sciences before him, Dr. Sandeep Rana’s commitment to innovations in agriculture and STEM fields, as well as mentoring the next generation, runs deep. He earned a master’s degree in crop, soil and environmental sciences from the University of Arkansas in 2013 and a doctorate in plant pathology, physiology and weed science from Virginia Tech in 2016, to name just a few of his educational credentials.

Rana now leads diverse, global teams at Bayer, spearheading initiatives in global technology delivery and overseeing development in critical areas such as novel disease solutions, novel germplasm solutions and gene editing. He also significantly contributes to advancements in agricultural science and technology by creating tailored solutions for diseases.

With his team by his side, he says he can see their work everywhere – from the modernization efforts in local farming that boost land productivity to the lush soybean and corn fields adorning Delaware’s landscapes, and in numerous fruits and vegetables that we consume every day, showcasing the value we add to Delaware’s agriculture.

Rana has been honored many times for his work in the agricultural field and continues to use his experiences to help mentor others. Of his many accolades, he proudly boasts several weed contest honors, showcasing his knowledge of agriculture, agronomy and crop weeds. When he’s not perfecting his own lawn or working to improve global agriculture, he can frequently be found at the Middletown and Bear-Glasgow YMCAs or traveling.
