Title: President
Workplace: R. S. Widdoes & Son, Inc.
Age: 37
Michael Widdoes has been a determined small business owner from day one, spending his entire life in concrete construction. When he was young, he was involved in the day-to-day operations of his father’s business, learning all about hard work and business development. At the same time, he started his own landscape business which he ran in the Christiana area for at least a decade before he closed up shop to focus on R. S. Widdoes & Son and his military deployment with the U.S. Army.
In 2018, Widdoes took over the company after his father’s passing. Since then, the company’s revenue has grown by 450%. In the past five years, the company has been able to grow while attracting and retaining staff. Projects under R. S. Widdoes & Son, Inc.’s belt includes concrete products under $1 million in value.
He believes that leadership is leading from the front and setting the standard for his team. He can often be found teaching others about business and while Widdoes does not currently have a college degree himself, he said he values the chance to teach business skills to those who do. As a part of his work as a leader at R. S. Widdoes & Son, he has successfully led a high performance group of soldiers, motivating and training them.
Widdoes and his company supports many community organizations and nonprofits like Naaman’s Little League, Piedmont Baseball Hockessin, Talleyville Girls Softball, Special Olympics Delaware, the Sunday Breakfast Mission, Ronald McDonald House Delaware, Nemours Children’s Hospital, and many veterans charities. A father of a two-year-old, Widdoes is a military enthusiast and believes he would be a historian or a battlefield tour guide if he was not in business.
