Keith Hammond has been a partner at BDO USA, LLP, an international accounting, tax and consulting firm, in Wilmington since 2019. He started his accounting career working for local CPA firm McBride Shopa, which had an alliance relationship with BDO. After a few years of fostering relationships, Hammond and his Wilmington colleagues became part of BDO in 2010.
Now, as a partner, he serves clients locally while providing technical support to some of the firm’s marquee clients across the country.
Hammond’s attention to risk management and audit quality led him to be selected to perform quality control internal inspections for BDO offices from Miami to Anchorage. He’s also helped facilitate training on technical accounting and auditing topics.
With work turning remote during the pandemic, Hammond strove to stay connected to his team and clients by reaching out often to communicate. In a business where apprenticeships are key, he wanted to ensure young associates continued to learn by osmosis despite the historic challenges.
Hammond also supports community causes important to his clients, such as Special Olympics Boys and Girls Club and American Heart Association. He is also active with Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County, serving on the board of directors and holding vice chair and Finance Committee chair roles. He recently helped steer Goodwill’s executive team through the COVID-19 pandemic when the nonprofit’s largest revenue generator – its retail and outlet stores – was forced to shut down.
After work, Hammond takes on a different role for his family: Chef of the house. He once successfully completed a marathon but now mostly runs after his two toddlers along with his wife, Lindsay.
