Title: Senior Managing Director and Financial Planner
Workplace: MassMutual Greater Philadelphia – Delaware
Age: 37
Leading a team of 20 advisors and guiding his clients toward their financial goals during a global pandemic has taught Christopher Metkiff to slow down and focus more on his family and himself while advancing his career goals in a new light.
Metkiff manages the Delaware team for MassMutual Greater Philadelphia, a financial planning company where he has worked for the past 15 years. The pandemic caused Metkiff to learn more about his clients’ personal situation and lives, to empathize and help folks regardless of circumstances, which in turn helped him become a better leader for his company and on his board positions at Delaware Futures and St. Mary the Assumption.
As a University of Delaware alumni, he played varsity basketball for the Fighting Blue Hens during his time there. Upon graduation, he quickly launched his financial services career and prides himself on his ability to recruit and mentor new associates throughout his career.
Metkiff’s awards include Field Leadership Development and the Leaders Club from MassMutual, Delaware Today’s Five-Star Wealth Manager, and University of Delaware’s Outstanding Alumni Award Recipient. He was also named one of Delaware Today’s 36 Intriguing Delawareans.
Metkiff volunteers his time through the Delaware Futures Inc., a nonprofit focused on aiding high school students in need to prepare for college, as a mentor and as a member of the Board of Directors. He also serves on the Bayada board of directors, and the University of Delaware’s certified financial planning board. Metkiff also is known for being a true Blue Hen, for hosting networking and client-based events at UD football games and appearing at UD career fairs.
During the pandemic, Metkiff’s friends began calling him Bob Villa due to all the home projects he’d started. An avid golfer, snowboarder and surfer, Metkiff has three kids with his wife, who he met at a kickball game through Delaware Sports League. He also continues to be a season ticket holder for men’s basketball games.
