As the old adage goes, “Justice delayed is justice denied,” and Shannon Humiston wants to make sure each one of her clients gets a fair shot at the legal remedy they deserve.
Humiston is an associate with the bankruptcy and restructuring practice group at McCarter & English LLP, where she represents clients in restructuring proceedings in state and federal court. She also represents individuals and entities in commercial litigation, including corporate disputes, fiduciary litigation, breaches of contract, land use and construction disputes.
Humiston coordinated a pro bono clinic that expunged approximately 50 juvenile records after teaching more than 10 attorneys how to do so.
She has also assisted community members in custody disputes, property disputes, and other legal proceedings free of charge.
Humiston organized a 5K event to support the Delaware Law Related Education Center’s mission of enhancing law-related education initiatives in Delaware. She also volunteered with the Office of the Child Advocate to represent children in foster care.
As a member of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC), Humiston this year joined the Delaware chapter’s social committee, which brainstormed various nonprofit ideas to help bridge the social justice gap.
Humiston, her husband and their daughter camp near the White Mountains in New Hampshire almost every summer, including this year, despite Humiston being pregnant with their second daughter.
Once COVID-19 restrictions are eased, Humiston is excited to be able to travel abroad again and she hopes to one day go on her dream vacation: a two-week trip to Australia.
