What began as a coal delivery business serving the greater Newark area has expanded into oil and propane delivery, residential HVAC, electrical and plumbing services. As Boulden Brothers approaches 75 years in business, the company looks back at a history of adopting new technology. The business used the first magnetic card reader in 1968, the first IBM 34 in the 1970s, and today has a tablet in every truck to ensure the timely delivery of service.
“Historically, delivery was calculated based on the season and how much product our customers used the season prior,” President Tim Boulden said. “But part of the way we’ve changed over the years – in particular with monitors to provide automatic delivery when needed – is to provide the best experience possible to our clients.”
Boulden Brothers also serves the community by supporting local nonprofits. In addition to sponsoring the Ronald McDonald House, Junior Achievement and the Newark American Little League each year, the family-owned company has teamed up with Folds of Honor to provide scholarships to the families of service men and women who were severely injured or fallen in the line of duty.
